Shawna found us in the freezing Rosamond December1999 cold desert in the middle of the night hardly being able to walk, full of frozen mud, matted hair and shivering at 19 degrees temperature. Emergency treatment diagnosed she had severe hip-displexia, was probably only 11 years, had vision problems, early old age, and had not been cared for and received medical treatment she needed throughout her life. She died an early age during the night several months later on her bed in our living room after fighting cancer. 

She was full of life, devotion, unselfish love, warmth and tried so hard everyday to stay with us holding her trusting head in our hands and lap. To today, Shawna reminds us of what our hopes and goals stand for all of them: in dedicated love and commitment while ensuring their full lifetime care. They deserve nothing less than the rights they were born into: never learning fear, loneliness, hurt, lack of human care or unshared devotion.
